HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL

HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL, HS 100

A514

A514 is the primary quenched and tempered engineering specification for steels having a minimum yield strength of 100,000 psi (690 MPa) in base thicknesses (up to and including 2.5”), issued by ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (www.astm.org). The formal name of the specification is “Standard Specification for High-Yield-Strength, Quenched and Tempered Alloy Steel Plate, Suitable for Welding”. A514 is available in a variety of grades, each of which specifies chemical composition and maximum thickness. The most common grades are Grades S, B, E, H, and Q, and sometimes F.  Notably, the A514 specification does not require reported impacts. HSPP generally orders A514 with reported impacts at -45C (-50F) where available.  HSPP orders A514 grades from SSAB, Nucor, and Cleveland-Cliffs, all made in the USA.
